Does taking notes by hand improve memory? Good question. Let’s investigate!
Pulp Scribes take note. Writing by hand is incredible for memory and recall of words, and laying down the foundations of literacy and learning.
Yup, you read us right. Taking notes by hand during a lecture, instead of typing can lead to a better conceptual understanding of materials! ‘Nuff said, we’re sold!
So how do we start practicing preciseness? What about with ...
Rulers!
Are rulers accurate? Why do rulers not start at zero? Are rulers straight?!
So many questions, so little time…
OK, this is a doozy, and we think the only way to get to the bottom of these burning questions is to skedaddle into the shop to see for yourself! There’s really nothing like a neighbourhood stroll… or a leisurely drive!
“Well, what is it?!”, we hear you decry! An old-school, no-nonsense, safe-as-houses ruler that will get your lines straight and your thoughts in order! That’s what!
The Ancient Ones knew the ruler as a ‘measuring rod’, and the first one was found dated circa 2650 BC in present-day Iraq! But if it measures stuff, then why is it called a ruler? Well, it came from the verb rule, meaning to ‘to exercise power’ or ‘to control’, then in the 1590s, also came to mean ‘to mark with lines’. So there you have it! Rulers! The essential tool for straight lines and accuracy!
What Next?
Fine-tip pens!
Pens! With fine tips! Yes, siree!
But, how precise are fine-tip pens? What’s the best fine-tip pen to get? How fine really is fine? Don’t let the questions distract you from the mission! The mission is to activate best practices. There are no wrong answers; there is only showing up, keeping going and giving it your best. Yes, this includes the simple art of note-taking!
So get it going, and get your writing hands on a Gel-Ink Rollerball pen, for starters.
The tip size is 0.7mm, which is very fine indeed! Colours are Black | Blue | Orange | White. We love them! We think you will too. We have a bunch of options in store, so while checking out rulers, take a gander at all the finest-tipped pens we offer!
Next in line?
Notebooks! (to keep everything running on schedule, of course)
“Why do I keep buying notebooks?” Is that the question you ask yourself? The answer is because you are intelligent, productive and diligent! And we admire you for that!
Origins of the notebook, anybody? It might surprise you to note (ahem) that the earliest form of notebook was the wax tablet, used as a reusable and portable writing surface in classical antiquity and throughout the Middle Ages.
The wax tablet was possibly one of the most sustainable and genius inventions. Made of wood and covered with a layer of wax, users could erase the content they’d written with a stylus (pen and eraser! Fancy!)
And while we’re thinking about it, have you ever heard of the Latin phrase “tabula rasa”? It literally means ‘a clean slate’, which came from this ever-so-techno Middle Ages Roman ‘device’.
What a fantastic way to practice precision over perfection - albeit 1000 years ago!
We are sure that these Ancient hand-note-taking scribes had magnificent memories. Vibe with this ye olde self-care routine by taking your own notes with a book of your choice: and we have many to choose from!
Let's list some!
