Tablescaping: Notes on a Concept Mash-Up (Let’s Make It Christmas)

Like ‘Manscaping’ but with tables. And Mariah Carey. We have the goods. Intrigued? Read on.   Gentlepeople, lend me your eyeballs. Don’t worry, I’ll give them back. But for now, it’s time to unpack the Ye Olde practice of setting the table. And when I say ‘Ye Olde’, I mean it. Older than your Grannie’s Grannie. The Ancient Romans and Greeks, to be precise. They were the first to document the enactment of making tables look lovely. They practised it to mark special occasions and showcase opulence by using “plenty of hand-painted pottery, embossed silver and even engraved glass” (Thanks for...

Wax On, Wax Off. Remember the Karate Kid? Yes or No, Doesn't Matter. Find the Black Belt of Waxed Stuff Here at Pulp.

The religious theme in stationary history runs strong!  See last week’s blog for proof. Hint: Who’da’thunk priests would need posters?)   Let's not get distracted. The long...

Cotton On Your Creative Mind

Let’s play a game of True or False about cotton! It’s stronger when wet …  There are over 50 different species of the cotton plant Cotton plants produce fruit!  You can’t eat it (but horses can … Yum,  I guess … for them). Cotton was the first plant to be grown on the moon. Now for the reveal. Drumroll, please … Yes, they are all true. Also, and most fittingly for us here at Pulp, cotton was one of the first materials to make paper. A strong but soft material, which most of us associate with getting dressed in the...
