Lean in For a Fun Lil’ History of The Fountain Pen.

Plume it up, Pulp Scriveners! We have a captivating blogisode for you today

The year was 1884. Waterman was the name. And the fountain pen was his game.

Lewis Waterman. He was the James Bond of fountain pens. He might not have thwarted international spies, but he did basically invent the ‘pen licence’ (a highly coveted document amongst younger generations!) If you know, you know.

Before the fountain pen, there was something called the ‘dip pen’. Pretty similar, except that you had to keep dipping the pen into ink to write continuously. Like corn chips and guacamole!? Perfect for a late night snack, but not what you want when you’re in the middle of pouring your heart out/plotting your blockbuster movie/listing life tasks/etc!!!

Waterman felt the frustration. “Get that ink flowing!” is possibly what he thought when he wanted a better alternative. As a pen salesman, he had seen them all. But he hadn’t seen a pen that could provide free-flowing ink for prolific penmanship!

So, he did what clever people do when they need a problem solved. He invented one himself. Bright lad!

In the meantime, things have definitely been brought forward to the 21st Century … Check out the

Take the pressure off. That’s what fountain pens do. Literally.

They use the weight of the pen and capillary action (the process of liquid flowing through a narrow space) to create a smooth writing experience.

“So fill it up with ink, let it flow. And watch the words come to life and glow.”

xx
