And -fun fact- contemporary love poetry stems from ancient cultures such as Mesopotamia, Rome, Greece and Egypt. Early love poetry often blended sacred ritual with romantic desire, evolving from fertility-focused songs to deeply personal, emotional, and spiritual reflections. 

All of these civilisations had their own versions of romantic verse, jotted down on some form of scroll, parchment, papyrus, parchment, etc. They knew how important it was to let the person know!
