Clean Sheet: Mulberry & Khadi!

Paper, that is, Pulp Papyromaniacs. For Gifts to Your Padre.

What do mulberry and cotton (khadi) papers have in common? And why should we be excited about them? Let’s break it down!

Exhibit A.  Both are made from plant fibres (the mulberry tree and cotton plant, respectively), a quality that makes them perfect for fine art printing that lasts a long time (think archival quality!)

Exhibit B. Due to their natural composition, they exhibit pH neutrality, which means that the paper neither has too much acid nor too much alkalinity. Instead, it’s a balance that makes it a first-rate choice for special projects, as it won't degrade, yellow, or become brittle, ensuring a longer lifespan and stability for valuable items like photographs, documents, and artwork. Whoop!

For the record, mulberry paper typically has a softer feel and a distinct, delicate texture, characterised by its long, silky, yet robust fibres, which create a unique wispy edge when torn. ('You're a little late, we're already torn')

AND, cotton paper is known for its strength and absorbency. It has a smooth, luxurious feel and appearance, especially when made from high-quality rags. Not too shabby!

Another fun fact - both come in handy for wrapping gifts and making cards for something like FATHER'S DAY (which is, let's face it, is imminently upon us)

Ahem, so now you know the facts, let us tell you what we have on offer!

Mulberry Paper

Handmade Mulberry Saa paper sheet with four genuine deckled edges.

Sheet size: 560 x 780mm Paperweight: 75gsm.

Sa-Paper has been made in Northern Thailand for over 700 years!  Over the centuries, it has been used for various purposes, including Buddhist scriptures, temple decorations during festival times, umbrellas, fans, and kite-making.

Commercially, one of the largest producers of Sa-paper in the world is Japan. The Japanese purchase large quantities of raw materials and paper from Thailand, which they use to manufacture a variety of specialty products for both domestic consumption and export.

Sa bark is also obtained from Lao. Aside from being a natural medium on which to paint or draw, Saa paper is excellent for gift wrapping of all kinds.

Can’t argue with that!
